PenCom Recovers Over N384m Pension From Defaulting Employers In Q1

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced the recovery of N384.28 million in pension contributions owed to workers by defaulting employers during the first quarter of 2023.

The Director-General of PenCom, Aisha Dahir-Umar, shared this information during the 2023 Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN) workshop held in Lagos. The recovered amount covers the period from January 2023 to March 31, 2023, and was obtained from 34 defaulting employers.

Out of the total recovered sum, N193.06 million represents the outstanding pension contributions, while N191.22 million consists of penalties imposed on the defaulting employers.

Dahir-Umar, represented by Abdulqadir Dahiru, the Head of Corporate Communications at PenCom, further stated that the commission has successfully recovered approximately N24.53 billion since January 2012 until March 31, 2023. This amount is divided into N12.44 billion in actual pension contributions and N12.09 billion in penalties.
