Insurance companies have failed SMEs – ASBON president

...

Dr Femi Egbesola, the President of the Association of Small Business Owners in Nigeria, discussed the achievements of ASBON during the last two years in an interview.

The association has provided its members with digital training on how to migrate from manual ways of doing business to using social media platforms to market their products and services.

ASBON has also trained its members on how to hold virtual business meetings and engage their staff in carrying out their duties remotely.

The association has advocated for intervention funds from the government for small businesses that are ailing due to the effect of the pandemic. ASBON has also requested tax relief for micro and small businesses.

Additionally, the association has advocated for stakeholders' inclusion in the government policymaking process, believing that MSMEs' contributions are essential to creating policies that adequately cater to their needs.

ASBON has engaged professionals and government agencies to train its members on the rudiments of export business and helped them connect with customers who need their products in foreign countries. ASBON has created an export/import group to facilitate networking, community, and ideas to support its members.

These efforts have reduced costs by forming clusters when exporting, attracted foreign exchange through payments made for products, and facilitated business growth for SMEs.
