Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Dangote Group, criticized the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Nigerian Shippers' Council for causing congestion in the country's ports.
During his speech at the Central Bank of Nigeria's third 'Race to US$200bn In FX Repatriation' Non-Oil Export Summit in Lagos, he blamed the terminal operators and customs for creating a container-stacking lot in most of their space, causing delays in the clearance of goods and increasing demurrage charges.
He urged the shippers' council and terminal operators to change their ways to aid the export industry in Nigeria, suggesting that they should ensure goods can be cleared within 48 hours maximum to maintain competitiveness. Dangote also highlighted that there is a government policy that exempts charges on exported goods.
