The CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has criticized the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for disrupting the airline’s flight operations.
On Tuesday, the NLC declared a strike in Imo after its planned Workers’ Day celebration in the state was hampered, and on Wednesday, the TUC and NLC disrupted Air Peace flight operations.
The airline’s management said the group “took over our counters in Owerri, Abuja, and Lagos, disrupting over 110 flights of Air Peace”.
According to Onyema, the airline lost about N700 million due to the trade unions’ actions, which he called insensitive since it did not concern Air Peace.
He added that NLC and TUC have no right to instruct an airline not to update its contractual obligations to passengers. Onyema urged action to address the situation, warning that if no action is taken, “then this country is a joke”.
